You do not strictly need a guide. Independent hiking is possible. However, the high altitude and remote location make a guided tour much easier and safer for most travelers.
International visitors pay 20 soles (approximately $5 USD) in cash. The Pacchanta community collects this fee at the checkpoint. The hot springs cost an extra 5 to 10 soles.
Yes. The local community rents horses for about 80 soles round trip. This is an excellent option for visitors with limited hiking experience or altitude issues.

My husband and I had a wonderful time on this day trip! The day was perfectly planned out, with breathtaking views. We loved the horseback riding and walking around the 7 lakes. The meals were also delicious. A huge thank you to Juan, who was so kind, accommodating, and knowledgeable. He made the experience all the more enjoyable. We’d very highly recommend this tour!
